Submissions

Making submissions on topical health policy, chronic disease prevention and environmental issues is an important function of The Diabetes Unit as both an awareness raising and advocacy strategy. Submissions are frequently made jointly by the Oxford Health Alliance and USISS Health Theme..

National Preventative Health Taskforce January 2009

A submission was made to the National Preventative Health Taskforce. The submission draws attention to the need for a broad approach with multiple ‘players’ in addressing the social, cultural and environmental factors related to issues of overweight and obesity, tobacco and alcohol (and their associated inequities). The relationship between environmental sustainability, health, social equity and social justice should be more strongly reflected in the priorities for action and a comprehensive research program is needed to better understand and tackle the ‘causes of the causes. It called for the NPHT to adopt and apply The Sydney Resolution in its recommendations.

National Health and Hospital Reform Commission October 2008

A submission was made to the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission – calling for it to adopt and apply The Sydney Resolution in its recommendations by focusing those areas and activities within the scope of the health system’s influence on creating healthy places, healthy food, healthy business, healthy policy and healthy societies..
