Cecile Eigenmann, Research and Development Officer, The Diabetes Unit

RN, CDE, MPH

(to December 2008)

Cecile joined the staff of The Diabetes Unit in August 2005 to pursue a work stream focussing on systems for improving and measuring the quality and effectiveness of diabetes patient education.

Cecile’s background is in diabetes patient education and research. She received her Diploma in Nursing in Switzerland and, after immigrating to Australia in 1988, worked for several years as a Clinical Research Nurse, Clinical Trial Coordinator and Diabetes Educator at the Prince of Wales Hospital. She also worked with the South Eastern Sydney Division of General Practice as a Project Officer and in 1995 completed her MPH thesis analysing GPs knowledge and practice behaviours in diabetes care. Cecile has also worked at the Australian Centre for Diabetes Strategies as a Project Officer developing evidence based guidelines and as a Credentialed Diabetes Educator at Sutherland Hospital.

Cecile’s major work at The Diabetes Unit focussed on the development of A National Consensus Position on Outcomes and Indicators for Diabetes Education, the Measuring Outcomes of Diabetes Education (MODE) project, and the development of NHMRC Guidelines for Patient Education in Type 2 Diabetes.
