Renee Slade, Research and Project Officer, The Diabetes Unit

Renee joined The Diabetes Unit in August 2008. She has two main areas of responsibility – coordinating the World Diabetes Foundation capacity building project in Vanuatu and Nauru; and supporting a number of sustainability initiatives undertaken by the Unit.
Prior to joining The Diabetes Unit, Renee’s experience was in the non-government sector with organisations such as the National Heart Foundation, Diabetes Australia and International Diabetes Institute, working on a range of health promotion and public health initiatives.
During her time at the National Heart Foundation (Western Australia), Renee worked on the youth anti-tobacco campaign Smarter than Smoking, workplace physical activity program Climb to the Top and the Local Government Awards. She also worked as a Sponsorship Officer managing a range of Sports, Arts and Racing sponsorships on behalf of Healthway.
As a Health Promotion Officer at Diabetes Australia-Victoria, Renee managed the VicHealth Racing Sponsorship program and worked on the inaugural Great Australian Bite fundraiser as well as the health professional component of National Diabetes Week.
At the International Diabetes Institute, Renee managed a range of evidence-based physical activity initiatives, most notably the Lift for Life and Weights on Wheels programs.
In 2008, she completed her Masters of Public Health, during which she developed a keen interest in the social determinants of health and emerging public health methodologies such as Health Impact Assessment.
